McCarty Charges to Top Five at South Boston

SUMMERFIELD, NC :: Bobby McCarty overcame an undesirable qualifying run and a miscalculated adjustment to score top 10 finishes in twin Late Model features at South Boston Speedway on Saturday night.

McCarty finished in the eighth position in the first of two races.  Prior to the race, the team made a spring change that McCarty said put the car the wrong way.  Before the second race, they changed it back to how they unloaded and McCarty worked his way up to the fifth position.

“We qualified toward theback and made a spring change before the first race,” McCarty said.  “It went the wrong way so we changed it back for the second race and the car was really good.  We just ran out of time.”

McCarty will be back in action on Saturday, May 10th at South Boston Speedway for the 100 lap NASCAR Whelen All American Series Late Model Stock Car feature.

McCarty Finishes Sixth in Showdown

SOUTH BOSTON, VA :: Bobby McCarty raced with NASCAR superstars in Thursday night’s Denny Hamlin Short Track Showdown at South Boston Speedway.  McCarty overcame suspension issues to score a sixth place finish in the race.

McCarty’s race started with a 17th place qualifying effort.  He went on to finish fifth in his heat race. McCarty worked his way up through the field before late race contact broke something in the right front suspension.  McCarty held on to finish in sixth after the incident.

“We had a good car,” McCarty said.  “We just needed to qualify better.  Then, with about 15 to go, we got in to it with another driver and messed up the right front suspension and had to hold on to sixth.  It was a good showing for us even though I felt the finish we got wasn’t what the car culd have got but we learned a lot and will go to work.”

McCarty was second among South Boston regulars and fourth among regional competitors.  In six races on the season, McCarty has top-10 finishes in all six starts.

McCarty will be back in action on May 3rd in twin Late Model Stock Car features at South Boston Speedway.

McCarty Hopes for Breakout Win at South Boston

SUMMERFIELD, NC :: 2013 South Boston Speedway Rookie of the Year Bobby McCarty is hoping for even more success in 2014.  Last season, McCarty had 10 top-five finishes en route to a third place finish in the championship points standings.  This year, he feels confident he can win races.

“We learned a lot last year,” McCarty said.  ”I learned a lot racing with these guys.  Hopefully we can put some stuff together.  We’ve basically got a brand new car.  The first few races will be a learning curve so we’ll do what we can and go from there but I feel like we should be able to get us a win this year.”

McCarty, who is looking for sponsorship to run the complete 2014 season, only plans to run a partial schedule at South Boston as of now.

“We’re only looking at a partial season due to sponsorship deals.  Right now, we’re just looking to run up front.  We’re not focused on points.  We just want to run as well as we can and contend for wins.”

McCarty competed at South Boston Speedway, Motor Mile Speedway, Southern National Motorsports Park and Martinsville Speedway in 2013.  In 2012, McCarty scored a Limited Late Model championship at South Boston Speedway.

McCarty will be competing in the season opening race at South Boston Speedway on Saturday, March 15th.  That race will consist of two twin 100-lap Late Model Stock Car features.

McCarty Anticipates Top 10 Performance at Martinsville

SUMMERFIELD, NC :: Late Model rookie Bobby McCarty is hoping to make his first trip to Martinsville Speedway a successful one in Sunday’s Virginia is for Racing Lovers 300.  McCarty feels he has a good chance to finish inside the top-10 with a little luck.

“We are ready,” McCarty said.  “We found some things wrong when we went to the practice.  I think we should be better than what we were.  We were about a tenth or two off.  Hopefully we’ll be right there.”

McCarty doesn’t know what to expect in his first trip to the paperclip-shaped oval but feels he should be able to run inside the top-10.

“As of right now, I don’t really know what to expect,” McCarty explained.  “I need to get the car where I want it.  If it runs the way I expect it to, we should easily get a top-10.  I don’t see a top-10 being a problem when I get the car where I want it to.”

McCarty feels like his car should be good.  Having competed at South Boston Speedway this season where he recorded a season high second place finish, McCarty knows he has the talent to race with what will likely be several of the top challengers in the Virginia is for Racing Lovers 300.

“I know if my car can run up front,” McCarty remarked.  “I don’t see why we couldn’t win.  They come every weekend with top-five stuff.  If I can get my car handling the way I need it to and take care of it, we should be up front.  We need to get our car as good as some of the others.”

McCarty has recorded 10 top-five finishes at South Boston Speedway in 2013.
